Landing pages can make or break a campaign. You can have a very well setup PPC account, but if you don't send traffic to an appropriate and relevant landing page you can lose your momentum in the first few seconds. Without a great landing page, your campaign won't work.
By
definition, a landing page doesn't necessarily need to be something that you create specifically for a campaign. It can be any page on your website that you direct traffic to. However, the most successful campaigns use landing pages specifically made to convert the traffic that is sent to them.
GoogleŽ has a tool called
Website Optimizer that can help you start learning about landing pages and what to do to make them work. It allows you to test what elements will work best with the campaigns that you are running. If you're unfamiliar with Website Optimizer or if you're a pro looking to learn more, there are some great seminars coming up October 30 and November 1 that will teach you all there is to know. October 30 is the beginners seminar and November 1 is for more advanced users. Check out the
Adwords blog for more information.
