Not sure if this is the right forum, but does anyone know if it's possible to add a Wordpress Blog onto the site? I would like to have a blog link on my web site and I hate to have to have another domain somewhere and link to it there.
I'm using E-Commmerce Pro.

I'm using E-Commmerce Pro. It can't be hosted on the site. You'd need to have another hosting account and either link to it or set it up as a subdomain.

I have the same question. Right now I am using Google E-Blogger, but I understand that somehow this doesn't give me the SEO advantages of hosting the blog myself.
My question is, specifically, how would I move my blog to my domain? Would I need to purchase an additional hosting package from netsol? Could it then be redirected to my current domain? Help?! I'm lost on this, but think that it's important to look into.

Here is an example of an e-commerce site - http://happyisthebride.com/ - and a blog using a sub-domain - http://blog.happyisthebride.com/This blog is using Blogger, but it could just as easily be pointed to Wordpress.

Did they purchase the blog hosting package from Netsol?
So, we cannot host the blog on our site at no charge, but we do have the option of adding the blog hosting package from NetSol to our package and then pointing it to our blog on E-blogger.
Am I anywhere close to getting this right?

Hi Renee, That is correct. Basically think of a blog as just another website with some software to manage it. Your ecom site is the exact same thing. So if you would like to use Network Solutions to host your blog as it has to be hosted some where sign up for a unix hosting package. Then once you have purchased this there is a one click install for wordpress and your blog is up and ready to run. You can then submit that new site to where ever you want to then. Here are some help guides - assigning domain name to hosting package- http://www.webhostinguserguide.com/03-assign-nsi-domain.htmsetting the blog up http://www.networksolutions.com/web-hostin...-blog-setup.jspblog hosting package only info - http://www.networksolutions.com/web-hosting/blogs.jspOne thing to remember like I said is a blog is just a web site. There are many people that can host a blog for you we just provide a simple one click interface to get it up and installed easily so you can have your own domain name associated to the blog. Joe

OK, so right now NetSol hosts my website with the E-commerce Pro package. I currently just have a link from my homepage that sends people to my blog hosted on blogger.
If I were to buy the unix blog hosting package....what necessarily would change?
People keep screaming at me to host my own blog because it's much better for the search engines. I'm not getting the connection.
Sorry to be so thick skulled about this.
And what is a CNAME and do I need one?

In terms of your ecom site, nothing would really change except that the domain name would be something like blog.yourdomain.com which will help your SEO as it is your domain name and not blogger.com...
In terms of cname - that stands for Conical Name and is a type of DNS record. store.domain.com is a cname of store. blog.domain.com is a cname record for blog. Basically it is just the technical name for subdomain name record for your site...

I have an existing blog on wordpress. Based on this thread--I understand it would be best SEO-wise to have it hosted as a subdomain.
If I purchase the Unix blog hosting solution--will I have to create a new blog or will I be able to keep my existing blog and just point the Unix blog hosting to it?
Would I have to also purchase the re-mapping feature on Wordpress to have them re-route my existing wordpress blog to the subdomain?
I'm new to all this...any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you.

Thinking of adding a blog to the site and found this thread.
I understand I need an additional hosting package for this. blog.myecomsite.com I assume I can call and add another hosting package to host the blog. Any issues with / how does the subdomain get added? I am leaning toward putting the blog on the ecom site by way of a custom page and an iframe. Not sure of any pro's or con's from either a usability or SEO perspective. I like the concept of having it 'on the site' so to speak.
Any thoughts?
At this point it would likely be a way to showcase new items and maybe different content.
Any additional thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi PowderDay,
If you want to have it on the actual ecommerce domain I would recommend simply creating new custom pages with your content and then creating a page that links to these new items. You could also use the new Timed content feature of the site if the topics are small as this will work perfectly for you as a micro blogging feature.
Otherwise for seo purposes I would not put it in an iframe by any costs as all seo value would be lost.
Finally in terms of setting up the subdomain, this is done easily through the account manager on networksolutions.com and if you have any questions at all our support staff could help you set this up or even assign the dns for you.

Joe I have called in for support several times and no one is able to assign a subdomain for me. I have an ecommerce package and a unix hosting package. I want blog.ecompackage.com to direct to the blog hosted on the unix hosting package but each time I go to assign a subdomain the account manager says that it is already assigned to another domain. I've called and spoken with 3 different NetSol employees who have been unable to help me. Is there any way that you could help me?

Hi Joseph and James,
I am very confused, after reading your very informative posts last night I cancelled a free trial with TypePad ( I was going to point it to the Cname)
I purchased a Wordpress package provided by Networksolutions and went to asign a Cname when I went back to wordpress I got confused and decided to wait for the morning and call NetworkSolutions Support.
I just got off the phone spending 45 minutes with 2 customer-service / techsupport , the first did not understand what I wanted to do and made me reset the DNS settings (thank's god nothing important was reset) Than she told me that it cannot be done.
according to her I can't have blog.cosmeticmagic.com If cosmeticmagic.com is an operational ecommerce web site.
When I insisted that it can be done she transfered me to hosting and they repeated the same. I asked the technician why can I set blog.cosmeticmagic.com on Typepad and I can't do it with wordpress?
Can you please shed a light on the situation? If they are correct I suggest puting a big banner next to the package saying that you can't assign it to a Networksolutions e-commerce package.
Thanks,
Nuriel

Matt,
The info was: We know that TypePad works - Do what you have to do. I am still hopig that NetworksoLutions will respond A. because I was know that wordpress has the cbabilities of blog.yourdomain.com and I like the idea of havingeverything in one account. on the other hand I am not going to wait forever and the idea of signing to TypePad looks brighter by the minute... It is odd that there is a complete silence on behalf of NetworkSolutions
