Well, I've got the 5 year itch and I think a big redesign is in our plans for next year. I've got about 8 comps that I am testing and gathering opinions on, but wanted to get some opinions.

I've been designing for 800 x 600 for a very long time - and I think that resolution is beyond old school now. I just pulled up a yearly stat that shows:
29.8% of our visitors are: 1024 x 768
22.6% of our visitors are: 1280 x 800
10.8% of our visitors are: 1280 x 1024
10.1% of our visitors are: 1440 x 900
...and only 2.5% of our visitors are at 800 x 600

It used to be said that you should always design for the lowest common denominator so as not to exclude potential shoppers - but if I design at 1024 x 768, I am serving about 95% of our visitors.

Any opinions?

Its also worth noting that we are seeing mobile visits increase steadily - we are pondering launching a mobile micro-shopping site as well.

Any opinions?

We are noticing that B*ng is gaining ground (and we are loving them!)

Any opinions?

Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day.

My site is also designed for 1024 x 768

...and Yes! I am loving Bing too!

I'd love to see them take Google down a peg or two.

Martini,

Although our site has a fixed table size, I would go fo 1024. (IMG:http://forums.networksolutions.com/style_emoticons/default/martiniemoticon.gif)

Our two main sites are designed around a 1024 user and have been for a number of years. currently our ecom site sees ~20% 1024 and only 2% lower - and all of that are phones. 75% is 1280 or higher. At some point (likely over the winter) I will move the site to a 1280 optimization as the 1024 users drop further. wide screens are the norm and very cheap now.
