I'm trying to assign a new directory pointer for a sub-domain. It's a domain that's hosted elsewhere... I've forward the nameservers on the other host. When I enter in the info and hit submit I get the following error...

"We're sorry but this hosting package has reached its maximum number of directory pointers. You will need to unassign some other domain pointer in order to assign this domain / add this subdomain."

I only have 19 domains and sub-domains pointed so far... don't you get 100??

Any ideas how to fix this?

There are two limitations, directory pointers and domain pointers. Domain pointers are used when a domain is pointing to an exising directory pointer that was configured with another domain. When you assign a domain to be used with a unique directory, a directory pointer is used. You can see your curent limitations, as well as what's being used on your hosting details page.

1. "large" web hosting package for 50 (or 100? counting the www. version of each name) domain names.
2. 22 folders for 22 web sites (wanting to move 3 more)
3. 56 domain names

CNAME forwarding results in 404 "not found" error message.

If I point a secondary (alias) domain name to the folder for the site I exceed the number of domain names I'm allowed.

If I remove (unassign) domain names entirely I *still* get the error message that I've exceeded the number of domain names allowed.

If I attempt to direct a domain to a folder within the site as a sub domain I still get an error message that I've exceeded the number of domain names allowed.

I have been on customer support since 9 am MST Sunday morning. Of those 11 calls 3 support requests have been generated. One was marked "resolved"- when it was not. The other I was told that it had been "escalated" when it had not. The third is pending.

There are multiple problems which I have with the quality of customer service, responses and efficiency of the support department but that is not the primary issue- it has been what has driven me to this forum in desperation- but it's not the issue.

The main issue is how do I get 56 domain names to point to 22 sites on your web hosting system? Is this possible? I've never had this problem before with any host and the fact that a merchant of domain names can't resolve this issue has me gobsmacked.

If it's not possible - I must find another server who can accomplish this.

With all due respect,

a "gold vip" customer.
