Most of the items we ship are Media type items and therefore can be shipped via a special type of discounted shipping logically called "Media Mail". However, we do offer some items that do not have the specifications required to be shipped via this method. Currently, there is no way to disable "Media Mail" for these products.

One way I figured to alleviate for this, is to simply jack up the shipping weight so it is more expensive. However, this also falsely raises the other types of shipping options, which is not wanted...

Therefore, my question is, "Is there a way to create a field for products that disables certain shipping methods?" If not, is this a planned improvement to the ASP?

Currently setting up shipping on a per product basis is not a function of the cart. This has been feature requested in the past however there is no timetable as to when this will be implemented.

This is something I've been also desperately searching for in a shopping cart and was hoping that the Pro version could handle it especially for USPS options which is the only way we ship as they're the least expensive for books. (I just signed up to 'test drive' it for 30 days to see how it really works and this is very disappointing that it won't let me lock out methods on items.) (IMG:http://forums.networksolutions.com/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I ship Media Mail in the USA and I ship internationally using various methods based on sizes/weights to give the best deals I can. Some can be sent in PM Intl Flat Rate Envelopes to save the global customer money, but some books are so large, that I have to be able to disable PMIFRE's for them as they won't fit and will have to go either First Class International if under 4lbs or the very expensive Priority Mail Intl if over 4lbs. (And with Canada and Mexico rates now being vastly different from each other, I need this control even more...)

Example of the shipping charges I need to offer:

-------------------------------------------------
BOOK 1 - 2lbs - 10x7x2 (Regular Size Hardcover)

US - Media Mail - $3.75
US - Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope - $5.80
US - Priority Mail - Not Offered (for people on the other coast it would run them $9+ - PMFRE is the better rate/choice to offer for this size/weight)

Canada - First Class Intl - $9.50
Canada - Priority Mail Intl Flat Rate Envelope - $10.95
Canada - Priority Mail Intl - Not Offered (Would be $19.40 - PMIFRE is MUCH better rate to offer)

Mexico - First Class Intl - Not Offered (Would be $15.00)
Mexico - Priority Mail Intl Flat Rate Envelope - $10.95
Mexico - Priority Mail Intl - Not Offered (Would be $21.25 - PMIFRE is MUCH better rate to offer)

International (Other than Can/Mex) - First Class Intl - Not Offered (Would be $15.00 - Use PMIFRE)
Intl (Other than Can/Mex) - Priority Mail Intl Flat Rate Envelope - $12.95
Intl (Other than Can/Mex) - Priority Mail Intl - Not Offered (Would be $21.25 - Use PMIFRE)

------------------------------------------

BOOK 2 - 5lbs - 15x10x3 ('Coffee Table'-size Hardcover)

US - Media Mail - $4.80
US - Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope - Not Offered - WON'T FIT
US - Priority Mail - Variable based on weight/shipping dest ($7.45-17.80)

Canada - First Class Intl - Not Offered - OVER WEIGHT LIMIT
Canada - Priority Mail Intl Flat Rate Envelope - Not Offered - WON'T FIT
Canada - Priority Mail Intl - $23.60

Mexico - First Class Intl - Not Offered - OVER WEIGHT LIMIT
Mexico - Priority Mail Intl Flat Rate Envelope - Not Offered - WON'T FIT
Mexico - Priority Mail Intl - Not Offered - Would be $31.00 - PM Intl Flat Rate Box Better Choice
Mexico - Priority Mail Intl Flat Rate Box - $23.95

International (Other than Can/Mex) - First Class Intl - OVER WEIGHT LIMIT
Intl (Other than Can/Mex) - Priority Mail Intl Flat Rate Envelope Not Offered - WON'T FIT
Intl (Other than Can/Mex) - Priority Mail Intl - $38.50
Intl (Other than Can/Mex) - Priority Mail Intl Flat Rate Box - $38.95

------------------------------------------

My current eBay store lets me pick and choose as above per item in up to three regions but I'm tired of eBay's final value fees which is why I'm looking for a store of my own. (However, their new ProStores shopping cart software crashes - known bug - when you mix and match items that are First Class Intl and Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelopes so I had to give up on them.)

It seems no one's shopping carts I've been able to test are geared towards book/audiobook/dvd sellers (ie people who can use USPS Media Mail in the US and need variable methods per other country/item)...

I sell approx 20-30% of my books on eBay overseas and having to turn off international shipping and have just a notice on this store saying 'contact me for rates' would probably lose me those sales... especially given the contortions I'd need to go through to then get paid (having to invoice manually...) <sigh>

If this 'feature' won't be implemented any time soon (ie the next 30 days), I'll probably have to cancel my test drive. Rats - I like all the other features I've tried out so far, but shipping rate control is my number 1 need.
