I am trying to get a little info about emailing tracking #'s to a customer. I tried searching the forums and it appears to be a hot topic, but I couldnt get any concrete info. Where is MC with this right now? Was this part of the recent upgrade? I was told by someone on the phone at MC that I need to setup a new order status and that when I move the order to that status it will send email tracking info. That doesnt seem to work for me. Am I doing something wrong?
Any info would be great!

Thanks in advance!

This feature was added to the 7.2 release. If a customer choose a real time shipping option in checkout the tracking number will be emailed to the customer. You will need to go into the order and insert the tracking number and then once that order is moved to partially shipped or shipped the tracking number will be emailed to the customer with a link to the shipping carrier chosen.

So what happens if they choose free shipping and I upload the tracking #? Does it not give it to them in the email?

If you have free shipping the system does not know which carrier you are using so there will not be a tracking number added to the email. You could send out a separate email with the tracking number for the carrier you choose.

So there is no way to have the system automatically include whatever tracking number is entered into the order - if you have free shipping but you know and your customers know all orders are shipped via ups - why can't the system automatically insert the tracking number into order email.

This would save a lot of time. Yahoo stores automatically do this i would think network solutions stores would offer this simple feature.

Hi militarymodeldepot,

Let me make sure this is clarified a little better - Right now say you have free shipping, UPS, FedEx and USPS enabled on your site.

If you a customer places an order with free shipping and you add the tracking number to the order the tracking number this won't be sent out to the customer when you change the order status to shipped. You would have to manually send this to them.

Now if that customer chose UPS, FedEx or USPS and you add the tracking number to the order, move it to shipped, it will then email the tracking number to the customer with the appropriate link to UPS, FedEx or USPS.

In terms of customizing emails there is not a way to do so at this time frame but this is being added to a future release. As to what you will be able to customize, add and remove though I can't say as this is something product management would decide.

Your best bet now is if a customer chooses this you can email the customer their tracking number in a separate email.

In 7.3 (next version, mid-summer) we check the tracking number(s) entered and link it off to the appropriate carrier, regardless of the shipping method that was selected on checkout.
