I've used Google Checkout off and on for a while on my site...but just don't quite get it. After having it enabled as a payment option, setting the Merchant ID and Merchant Key, entering the API callback URL, etc. -- it still seems to require that I sign in to Google Checkout to process the payment and complete the transaction.

Am I missing something here?

Hi LoMall,

That is correct with Google Checkout you will have to process the orders on their end. This is part of their security feature set for their Credit Card validation process.

Note though that once so many orders have been placed on your site with Google Checkout, they do have a way to set your store up to automatically charge the persons card.

Note though that you will still need to login to Google Checkout to verify all orders though as the processing is not done directly from the site and is handled off site.

The same thing goes with Paypal Express.

I use PayPal Express and don't have to do anything to process an order with them...just move the money every so often into my checking account.

We can charge a Google Checkout order via the MCP on the order right now. Sometimes it is convenient, other times it isn't, because we may have multiple tracking numbers, so we login into GC and send tracking info there. The only other reason we go to Google Checkout, is that NetSOL and Google servers aren't speaking perfectly right now, so the payment status's don't always sync up.

What I meant with PayPal is exactly what you said LoMall.

The reason is because since it is an offsite gateway we have no way to truely 100% guarantee that the order has been paid for because if something fails from when they leave your site to when they get back we cannot be 100% sure if everything is completed properly. Due to this the rule of thumb is if you use an offsite payment method like this - you should always check them for every order that comes in with that payment method.

Better than losing money if you ask me and the wise old saying, better safe than sorry.
