At the beginning of this year, in efforts to increase my search engine rankings for several of my most important words, I implemented several "SEO friendly guides". While I have seen results from these, I think that the results could be stronger...What else can I do?

If anyone is knowledgeable in this regard, I would love some feedback. Basically, I made my keyword ratio at 1:10, used all the correct headings, and file structure...

Here are links to an example:

The next thing that you can do to ensure stronger results is to get more links to your site from authoritative sites and always add more fresh content. The more the better. One thing you could do for your site is have links from other sites that compare different bibles and books or have reviews on them and ask them to link to your site to buy it; or you could write those reviews and articles yourself. This would help your site out a lot in terms of content and keyword density covering your products.

Does it matter if I write them myself, if I do so using custom pages, or do they need to come from a different domain?

If you want the content to be credited as yours, you will need to host it on your site. Now it doesn't matter who writes it just that it is hosted on your site and you have links to it. Note though that when I say it doesn't matter who writes it that you cannot simply copy and paste someone's content that is already on another site. You need to write your own unique text. Now if you don't have anyone that can write this content for you or you don't want to do it yourself, I would start by seeing if writers of that content on the web would link to your site. In the end though you would best be off by doing both.
