I was shocked to see that the csv order export was completely worthless and thus you must export in xml to get any valuable information. Way to make things complicated for us!

So...does anyone know of a good and free tool that can convert xml to a csv file? Something similiar to how dataport did it I guess. Thanks!

I asked the exact same question and got a Google Search link to "CSV to XML conversion" which gave me basically no information at all. I have everything set up to work in Excel and Access and do not want to buy a conversion program to get at my information. The biggest thing I see lacking is with the orders download as csv, you get incomplete information. We just need all of our order information to export via csv or give us back something like Dataport.

This is actually discussed at http://forums.networksolutions.com/voice-y....html#entry6772

One of the problems with csv is that it is flat. Unfortunately an order is not flat as there are multiple products per order, customer information and more that result into multiple datasets. With dataport you will see for exports like world ship, etc we had to ask you how many products to export per order. The max was 5 though so if you had an order with more than 5 products, you couldn't use that export then. This is one of the things that we are looking into for sure though but the only true way to represent a non flat structure is with a file format that is not flat, hence xml.

A flat file is a static document, spreadsheet, or textual record that typically contains data that is not structurally related.

You need to use excel 2007 to use the XML file with your shipping software like UPS worldship or Endicia. Download the XML order file and then start a new excel file and call it SHIPPINGMAP. Then click the developer tab and map your excel file to the XML file. You can connect to the XML file and drag to proper fields into your map. Save the map and import the XML data. You should now see your shipping information and any other information you might have mapped. Now save this file as a csv file and use it with UPS Worldship, Endicia, ETC...

Hope this helps. This is how we are doing this with worldship and endicia and V7

I can't even export my orders. I get an error every time. Thanks daddies for the feedback on mapping the XML feed to the UPS software. That helps.

Daddies thank you, I have been loosing sleep oveer this XML issue since I have seen version 7. Thank god I have not migrated yet. Excell 2000 dose not have the developer tab??? Do I have to upgrade Excell? We have been exporting orders via Data port and then we parse it and import into our order entry program which works with our shipping and accounting program. without a solution I am dead in the water.
Have you been able to build templates for the mapping or do you have to do it all over each day?
Thanks for any help you can provide. john

Oops. I guess I should have been paying attention. The error that I get is: "Unable to retrieve export information". I'm trying to dowload order data in xml format. If I want more than 3 or 4 months worth of data I get the error.
