I am trying to use google webmaster tools to verify my site. However, I am not sure where or how to do the verification status for the meta tag or the html. I tried both, but I must not be placing the code in the right area.

Hope you can help. I just redesigned my site and did the v7 migration 2 months ago. But it has taken up until this past month to get it all cleaned up and the site redesigned.

thanks
V

Your best bet will be to upload an html file into the file manager. Google will give you the file name needed and then you just need to go in and upload that file to the root directory.

Hey plazagirl2,
Just wanted to reaffirm - its simple.
>Create a new page that is named exactly as the verfication step specifies in any GUI editor (DW, FP...whatever) and upload it to the root of your site.
>Specify the URL in the verification box and you should be good to go.

If you are still confused, post back and I'll get more detailed.

I am having the same problem......but I'm not quite as computer savvy. Can I create the page using some kind of custom page creator within V7? I don't know how to work with DW or FP.

I've been trying to verify my site so that I can use Webmaster Tools for weeks now but haven't tried since migrating to V7.

And I don't understand creating a site map. Is that something we can do through our admin panel? Or can anyone recommend a place where I can research how to do this? I see that my site isn't getting indexed by googlebot as frequently as it was before and a different thread suggested a sitemap. Just don't know where to begin.

And I don't know what the root of my site is....

To create this blank HTML page all you need to do is open notepad and click file >> save as. Then under the document type choose all files. Under the name put in the name google supplied to you followed by .html. (Googlename.html)

In regards to generating a sitemap. Go to this link and there are many free google sitemap generators.

All rightie, I've created the file, but where do I upload it to my site? As a custom page? I'm not sure where to upload the file. Help!

I dinked around and got it! I'm verified. Now I've got to look into the site map.

Reneewood, are you able to explain what you did when you dinked around? I've been trying to get verified for the last hour and can't seem to get it listed correctly. I did create and save the file as listed in the thread above, just not sure what to do with the file once it's been created.

Click on the file manager over on the left and upload it to the directory that opens up.
