Mysql Connection

I'm a technical consultant for a site hosted on Network Solutions® under the nsHosting Shared (Small-Unix) plan. I encountered a problem with connecting to a database (I'm using PHP for the connection script). Details are below:

Configuration
Server (alias): mysqlv10
Database: some_db
Database user: someuser

Error message
someuser@"%" does not have permission to access some_db

Comments
I logged in via SSH, and determined that "someuser" has permissions to "localhost" ie. If the server was "localhost" the connection script would work. However, the database can only be connected via the DB server's IP or alias, not "localhost". I couldn't find a place to handle user permissions on the control panel, and logging in via SSH again gives me permissions on "localhost" so I can't extend the user's permissions to "mysqlv10".

Suggested Resolution
The problem cannot be resolved by creating another user (because all permissions get set the same way). Either extending "someuser" permissions to "mysqlv10" or enabling access via "localhost" might work (by the way, I've tried this using the DB server IP).

For the past several days my access logs have been acting up. Suddenly daily log files are all about 1 or 2 kb in size, and report a single hit. Also each hit shows an identical 6 KB bandwidth. Hits are from different sources, but are not even logging my own visits.

Is there something I can reset from my side, or is this a server issue? I'd appreciate any clues about resolving this, thanks!

Drupal Site Extremely Slow!

Hello,

I'm new to putting up a site on Network Solutions. Usually I would have a separate host, but the client has hosting here.

I'm having a major issue with a drupal site we have created. It has extremely slow lag times on the initial connection/load of the site. Once you're on the site it seems to be running at normal speeds, but the initial load is enough to have any visitor question the site being up.

We took care of this part that was sent to us:
"Another thing you can check, is in your MySQL
connection string within your PHP script make sure you are using the local
network name for the MySQL database instead of the IP address. If you are
using the MySQL IP address the script may go out to the Internet, then back
in the network to perform queries (which produces more latency, and possibly
Internal Server Errors or Time out errors). The internal network name looks
something like "mysqlv1" and can be found in the networksolutions.comdatabase manager after logging in."

but dont get what this is:
"If you have not done so already I would
recommend running an optimize table script on your MySQL database tables, to
speed up query times. "

Anyone know what that second piece of advice is?

Is this a network solutions issue with drupal? My programmer and I have done these sites for quite some time and have yet to encounter the speed issue like it is here. Any advice with drupal and netsol is much appreciated.

Emails Not Getting Through / No Bounce Backs

Is anyone else having email issues? Since last WED? I am copying my hotmail account on everything and have the stuff I send / reply never get to my SALUS account. If I try to email my SALUS account from hotmail it may or may not get there. Net Sol has said there is a problem but I am losing business left and right.

Should we switch companies? Who else is good? I am missing emails from clients and this has been going on since last WED / THURS. It seems to be worse on replies and forwards and there is no specific set of things you can do to recreate the issue. They seem to have no idea what the issue is or what's causing it. With no fix in sight I am terrified. I am losing thousands of dollars daily.

At this point would it be better to be down for a day where at least people get bounce backs and switch companies? Any ideas? If you told me now that I would be up and running in 24 hours that would be wonderful. I am beyond anger and just want to break down and cry thinking about all the sales we are missing. Feel free to call me anytime if you have solved this problem or have a good idea. I would love to talk to you. I am using hotmail for now so I will actually get your emails...
todd_mckenzie99@hotmail.com

Todd McKenzie
Managing Partner
Salus Solutions LLC
866.730.0707 Toll Free
866.730.0708 FAX
214.693.6678 CELL
todd@salussolutions.com

Spf Records & Spam Filtering

I've been using the NS hosting services for about 18 months now, but recently I've been running into various problems with delivery of outgoing messages and possibly false positive trapping of inbound messages.

I currently use Outlook (POP3), sending messages through my domain hosted on NS. Therefore, even though my domain's MX record resides and is being hosted on NS, each message I send contains the dynamic ip address assigned by my ISP. Should I be setting up SPF records on my domain DNS record (also by NS) to prevent my outgoing emails from being rejected by receiving email servers? Is rejection of email from domains without an SPF record commonplace?

Also, we've had numerous situations lately where known messages by customers are simply not arriving in our NS mail (and the sender does not receive any bounce-back). NS does not provide any mechanism where we can see messages that have been trapped by the Spam Filtering system, therefore we have no idea what messages we're missing. This is becoming more frustrating day by day and making me question the reliability of the service.

Are others being affected by an increase in false positive Spam Filtering?

Thanks!
