Up til now, I have resisted attempts into this new avenue of marketing and stuck with the traditional methods such as ppc, organic seo, shopping and shopzilla.

I have heard rumblings however that the new wave of marketing for small business' such as many of us on netsol is to use social media marketing strategies....such as linkden, facebook etc.... I guess its a fine line putting yourself out there, without coming across as spamming for biz?

Any of you tried and had success with these new strategies? I thought this might be a good thread discussion to start as most of us are pretty green to all of this.....

Msuz.

Hi Msuz,

I definitely feel social media can only help your small business get out there and get your name recognized.

We actually have a site that discusses this and has some articles on it as well. Check out http://www.mysolutionspot.com

From a marketing perspective, I know that social networks are a must, but can't find any information about how to actually implement this. I wish Network Solutions would just create an easy application so that we can link to our social network pages.
I find that playing around with the cosing, creating buttons etc. is risky (don't know what I'm doing).
I also wish that someone would post an easy way to link our pages to Facebook, MySpace, etc.

http://www.addtoany.com/

here you go - simple JS button simply just add to each page.

Also note that simply having people link to your pages on social networking sites is not social network marketing. You actually have to go out there, build up your reputation and build a following. Checkout http://blog.networksolutions.com/ and http://www.mysolutionspot.com for more information on how to use social network marketing to build your business rep.

Thank you very much. Now where exactly do I paste this?? Sorry but I am not technical enough- do I paste it into each product description? When I do this, only the code loads and no button shows up on my web page. Do I have to create a box, an image???

Hi godiva72,

If you have pasted the code properly in your products description or any html area it should display properly, thats all you have to do. My first question though is did you paste the code directly into the WYSIWYG area. If so this will mess up the scripting code because the WYSIWYG removes things like that. I recommend turning off the WYSIWYG editor first in Operations >> Settings, then adding it to your products.

agkits,

I added the button too, but if you click the button it takes you to the add to any page. I noticed yours does not...how did you get rid of that? I tried removing the link from the image but then it didn't give the drop down either?

Thanks
Msuz

Never mind I saw you put '#' in the href. thanks

When I turn off WYSIWYG, I am presented with a page full of code and don't know where exactly to place the AddToAny.com code. I have hundreds of products on my site and can't do this on every single page.
Is there a location in the Network Solutions webpage aplication where html code can me added? How do websites with thousands of products manage to geth this on every page?

Godiva72,
To have this on every product page you need to add the code in the appropriate spot under the "Design > Product Layout Design" section. Then select the current active template. Click the edit box. You won't need to even mess with the WYSIWYG editor. Just paste the code in the spot you want it. Anything you want to show up on every product page goes here.

Msuz,
Sorry for the delay, Glad you got it working. You are correct all you need to do is replace that link with a #.

I just tested your link and did did not work. At first it looked like I was being taken to my facebook page, but a redirect took me to the "add to any" page" instead.

it's working

there is 2 vers of the code if you mouse over the java code will alow you to click the link you want. but if your customer has java turned off on the browser the mouse over will not work, so then they can click on it and that will take them to "add to any" so they can click on the service they want to add.

try it again then click on facebook

Just to clarify, there is one version of the code from Add to Any. The change in code that I posted is just removing the href to there site and replaced it with a #. You can keep that link to add to any if you want. So if visitors have javascript disabled the link still works as Xtreme posted.

The amount of people viewing my site with javascript disabled was minimal (1.28% for the year) compared to the amount of people who would initially click that button rather than mouse over. The change was to prevent sending them to add to any's site (in the same window). Whereas clicking the individual links (ie facebook, digg, etc.) open a new window, still keeping the visitor at your store.

Now there is a change that could be made to the code to allow the page to open add to any's website in a new window.

Rather than the first line of code being...
CODE
<a class="a2a_dd" href="http://www.addtoany.com/share_save">

You could change that to...
CODE
<a class="a2a_dd" href="java script:void(0)" onclick="window.open('http://www.addtoany.com/share_save')">

Thanks for the addtoany link. I added it with some agkits inspired revisionist code and love it. I added it right under the email to a friend link, looked pretty clean.

Been thinking about adding something like this for a while but have been too busy to really work on it.

Thank you all

I just installed it and it is working!

I read on their website that Add to Any automatically integrates with Google Analytics.

Here are the instructions how to access the statistics

Do you see via Analytics that anyone is actually using this button?

Thanks,

Nuriel

Just found this....

QUOTE
<script type="text/javascript">
a2a_onclick = 1;
</script>

I started to find it quite annoying when my mouse would skim over the button it would pop up. Adding this makes it so you have to click the button for it to pop up.
