I would like to know how to do this on my own and not have someone to do it for me. I have also searched on google for solutions and found nothing.

It might be different for a VPS, but for my normal web hosting the option is in my Account Manager under:

Web Hosting >> Manage Web Hosting >> Upgrades & Migrations

Maybe someone from NS Hosting will have more info for you

I have tried this but there is no option to upgrade to a newer PHP version.

The Paralells (formerly SWSoft) fourms often have solutions for many Plesk issues. I found an article with instructions for upgrading from PHP 5.1.6 to PHP 5.2.6 under Plesk 8.6.0 at http://forum.swsoft.com/printthread.php?t=55606.

Before doing any kind of manual upgrade, especially if it involves PHP or MySQL as they are the basis for the Plesk Control Panel, it is always wise to do a backup of your VPS under Virtuozzo > Maintenance (you must be logged in as Root to do this).
