Hello,

I have a windows hosting account at Network Solutions. Also, I let NS install DNN. Next to this I assigned a domain name to the hosting account. But now, when I enter the domain name (for exampe: www.nicedomain.com) I get "redirected" to 92343942309.netsolhost.com (example again). But the DNN install has URL="nicedomain.com".

How can I make sure the nicedomain.com is displayed in the address bar instead of the netsolhost.com?

Kind regards, J.

QUOTE (Customer Support)
Please be informed that the scripting of the web site referred to the third level ID of the hosting package that is why it is showing a different url on the address bar. Kindly modify the scripting so that it will show the domain name itself and not the third level ID.

We hope this information has been helpful.

Sorry about the trouble you've had with this issue. The reason why you are being redirected when accessing your site is because your Portal "HTTP Alias" is set to your netsolhost address.

To fix this, you can login to DNN as the host user, and choose Portals from the Host menu. Once in the Portals section, you can click the pencil icon next to your configured Portal(edit). On the next screen (all the way on the bottom) you have the ability to add a new HTTP alias. You choose this option and type in your domain name, and when you access your site via this domain it will no longer redirect.

Thanks for your respons! Unfortunetaly this doesnt work. I added www.nicedomain.com as HTTP alias, but when browsing to this url still the netsolhosting url is displayed.

Hmm, one thing to note is- if you have DNN installed to a subdirectory of /htdocs you may need to add the domain alias as www.nicedomain.com/dnnfolder/. If this is not the case I would just verify the domain is spelled correctly in the domain alias section, and also verify that your settings were saved after making the initial change by logging out and logging back in.

resolution does not work...

i have 0xxx.netsolhost.com/nuke as default on portal alias.
i added domain.com and www.domain.com as portal aliases.

i placed domain.com and/or www.domain.com on browser url, a redirect to 0xxx.netsolhost.com/nuke still appears//

any advise?

I wanted to tell you how I have gotten DNN to work on Network Solutions under this scenario of a subfolder installation.

1. Update the DNN web.config HostHeader section with “foldername/” (for example, <add key="HostHeader" value="dnn/" />)

2. Make sure that both aliases are setup. www.domain.com & www.domain.com/foldername (I like to make sure the primary domain is first)

3. Remove the hosting alias (xxx.netsolhost.com) as a precaution.

I have actually moved two different DNN installs from the subfolder to the root to eliminate this issue altogether, but I have another installation where this is not possible, so the above solutions resolved this for me.

Please let me know if this doesn't solve the problem.
